Mormon collection, 1911, 1950-1958, undated, includes: mostly typed transcripts and some written letters about various doctrines and interpretations of doctrines in various sects of the Mormon faith, particularly the Temple Lot and Whitmorites, questions about succession of Joseph Smith, and correspondence between various Mormons leaders and writers, including Frank F. Wipper and Fred C. Hutchins, Robert E. Grant and Elder S.F. LaPoint, and John C. and David Whitmer. Other authors included in the collection are: Pauline Hancock, J.J. Williamson, Raph Harder, O.E. LaPoint, and Alex Dudley.

Papers are actually undated 20th century transcriptions of two letters from Mormon missionaries found in the Evening and Morning Star (EMS), a monthly Mormon newspaper, in Ohio and Mich. The letters include one from Samuel Bent in Pontiac, Feb. 16, 1833, published in the April 1833 EMS, and a letter from Gideon (Simeon?) H. Carter in Kirtland (Ohio), dated May 1833 published in the July 1833 EMS. Also, there are notes on the obituaries of William Scoby who died on Dec. 4, 1833 age 22, published ...

Wipper was a writer and publisher of Mormon texts and newsletters in Fresno (Calif.) during the 1950s-1960s. Fred C. Hutchins was born on April 28, 1901 in Flint (Mich.) He graduated from Central Michigan Universrity, Yule Business College, and the University of Calif.-Berkley. He married Leata Harder in 1926 and had six children.
